Another Date To Remember

June1st, 2008, Tyler willingly asked to sit on the potty, where he proceeded to go pee into it.

We've been potty training for a while now and it's been a slow go. Normally, he sits on a little potty seat over our potty, because he's rejected the 2 small potties we have for him. He's gone poop twice on it, and has peed here and there. This has been a tough thing. Every child progresses differently, so for Tyler we decided to back off from pressuring him, so he can go at his own pace and see what happens.

Yesterday, at dinner, out of the blue, he said he wanted to sit on the potty. But not the potty seat in the bathroom, the one we have in the living room that doubles as a step-stool. He walked over, pulled down his pants, took off his diaper, and sat down....then peed. It was cute how it happened. He called for Mommy, as if to say something, then started trailing off in his sentence, then paused in silence. Then he looked at me, smiled, and said he went pee pee on the potty.

We were so excited and he was too. He helped us carry the pee pee to the bathroom and he helped us flush it down, then got a Thomas sticker for his potty chart. But he wasn't done. He wanted to try again, and he peed again, which shows he is exhibiting control. This was a good thing to learn. Especially since we repeated this another 6 times.

Basically, it was one pee, broken into small segments...lol. Either, he's smart enough to know he can get a sticker after each episode or he was too excited after peeing that he stopped. Not sure which, but I slightly suspect it started as the latter, then became the former...lol.

Either way, it was a great night, and he seems very encouraged about peeing now. This morning, we tried to sit on the potty after he woke up, and he peed again.

I am so proud of him. I hope this is the beginning of his next step in potty training. He's growing up so fast!
